The root cause is a deranged (or at least misguided) mind…

There are deranged people in every culture and in every country around the world. Only the US has mass killings on this scale. The difference is the easy availablity of guns.

So can cars, chemical attacks, bombs…all of which can be obtained more easily than guns, or constructed from over the counter materials available at any Walmart.

and yet when 30 people die in 5 minutes, it’s guns that does it. Even the Boston bombing killed only 3 people.

One variable is physical school security.

that would not have helped the people who died in Las Vegas one bit. Or the people who died in the church shootings.

The problem is lax gun laws, not school buildings.

Nobody but law enforcement should be able to carry a gun in a public place. People who handle guns carelessly should be forced to pay for any damage the guns do, up to and including medical bills and funeral costs. Guns are dangerous and should be under lock and key at all times unless they are at a firing range or some other place where it’s safe to discharge a fire arm.

Someone who buys a gun should not only have to submit to a thorough background check, they should be required to take course on how to handle the gun. And, of course, be able to show they have liability insurance for any harm caused by the gun.

The victims should no longer be required to pay for the damage these killing machines cause.
