You used the term “SOCIALIST”, Wikipedia uses the term “SOCIAL”. They are not the same thing. A government that is socialIST takes ownership of banks, factories, stores, etc., and runs them in place of private individuals, companies, and corporations. Since people actually want to run those businesses themselves, the government uses authoritarian means to accomplish this.

Never going to happen in the USA. Not in your lifetime or mine.

There is no social justice without good paying jobs.

That’s at the root of the problems we are having now. Businesses automated (or shipped jobs overseas) and cut back on employees. However, instead of using even part of the savings to raise the wages of the remaining employees, they pocketed the difference. Employee wages have barely kept up with inflation and people who once had great jobs are now working at Taco Bell — which is automating as fast as it possibly can. And not paying its remaining employees a dime more.

I think the answer is not going to be “welfare” but a reverse tax paid for with a VAT.

Automation is going to eat up a lot more jobs before it’s done. And a libertarian paradise where everyone on the left end of the bell curve starves to death isn’t going to be acceptable.
