“Millions of people believe it so it must be true” is ad populum fallacy. It isn’t useful to this discussion.
Theologians mostly discuss morality which is a very good subject to discuss because there is a “there” there.
But when they discuss God Himself they are discussing the hair in the mane of the unicorn: “It’s teal! If you say it’s blue or green you will die, heretic!” In other words, they are discussing a subject without an object.
You can’t force yourself to believe in Santa Clause because millions of children believe.
I’m not calling you a child.
Civility
Yes, I can be dismissive and flippant. Over the centuries atheists were beaten, hanged or burned at the stake. There are still states that have laws that forbid atheists from holding public office. All those laws are unconstitutional, of course. but that is ignored. Most people say they wouldn’t vote for an atheist anyway.
Atheists are frequently called a cancer, a public menace, murderers, etc. And there aren’t just one or two of us. You probably know several. They probably haven’t told you because, well, see above.
You are correct that one can’t prove a negative. You are making the positive claim (there is a god) and therefore must provide the evidence. I’ll save you some trouble. There isn’t any. And as Christopher Hitchens once said “That which is asserted without evidence can be dismissed without evidence.”
